Google has launched an extended repair program offering free display replacements for a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL devices affected by a specific hardware defect. This program covers issues like vertical lines or screen flickering for up to three years from the original purchase date. Understand the program

Google has determined that a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL devices may experience issues that affect functionality of the device.

Google is offering an extended repair program. This program provides support coverage for affected devices. Coverage lasts for 3 years after the original retail-purchase date.

Your Pixel 9 Pro or 9 Pro XL may qualify for this program. Eligibility requires a vertical line on the display. It must run from bottom to top. Display flicker on Pixel 9 Pro devices also qualifies.

Your phone might not qualify for the extended-repair program. However, similar display or other issues may still be covered. Review Google’s limited warranty for details.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the free display replacement program, specific conditions must be met:

Covered Issues: The device must exhibit a vertical line on the display running from top to bottom, or experience display flickering.

Timeframe: The device is covered for three years after the original retail purchase date, which is an extension beyond the standard warranty period.

Physical Condition: The phone must not have any other physical damage, such as a cracked screen, damaged cover glass, or signs of liquid intrusion, as these will likely disqualify it from the free program.

Verification: The device must be inspected by Google or an authorized service center to verify its eligibility for the program.

Repair Process

If your device is eligible, the repair process is straightforward:

Service Options: Starting December 8, 2025, repairs are available through Google walk-in centers, authorized service partners, or online warranty repair options.

Data Backup: Google advises users to back up their data and place their phone in “Repair mode” (found in System settings) before sending it in for service.

Warranty on Repair: Any repairs performed under this extended program include a 90-day warranty on the replaced parts.

For the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google has also started an extended warranty program for general functionality issues, which may result in a free replacement for eligible devices.

Understanding IP68 Dust and Liquid Resistance Rating

(From your Manufacturer)

IP68 Rating - Fix Factory Canada

In today’s tech-savvy world, our devices are constantly exposed to a wide range of environmental conditions. Whether it’s our smartphones, smartwatches, or even industrial equipment, we rely on these devices to function reliably, even when subjected to dust and liquids. This is where IP68 dust and liquid resistance ratings come into play. In this blog post, we’ll deep dive into what IP68 rating means, how it is tested, and why it’s essential for various electronic devices + how you can correctly care for your mobile device.

What Is an IP Rating?

IP stands for Ingress Protection, and it is a standard used globally to define the level of protection provided by a device against solids (dust and particles) and liquids (water and other fluids). An IP rating consists of two numbers, such as IP68, with each number having a specific meaning:

The first digit represents protection against solids

0: No protection

1-6: Protection against various levels of dust and other debris, with 6 being the highest

The second digit represents protection against liquids

0: No protection

1-8: Protection against various levels of water and other fluids, with 8 being the highest

Understanding IP68 Rating

An IP68 rating is one of the highest levels of protection a device can have against dust and liquids, if your device is un-opened/un-fixed/un-refurbished (original), from the Factory (OEM) and without physical damages or above threshold drops/bangs/compressions etc. Let’s break down what each digit signifies:

Protection Against Solids (6)

An IP6X rating indicates that the device is completely protected against dust and particles. It is dust-tight and won’t allow any dust to enter, ensuring that the internal components remain clean and functional.

Protection Against Liquids (8)

An IPX8 rating denotes that the device can be submerged in water beyond one meter for an extended period without any harmful effects. This level of protection makes it suitable for activities like swimming and snorkeling. However, it’s essential to note that IPX8 doesn’t specify the depth or duration of submersion, so manufacturers may provide additional details.

Testing for IP68 Rating

Manufacturers rigorously test their devices to ensure they meet the IP68 standard. These tests include:

Dust Resistance Testing

Dust chambers are used to expose the device to various types and sizes of dust particles. The device is inspected for any ingress of dust. It should remain completely dust-tight throughout the test.

Liquid Resistance Testing

The device is subjected to various liquid depths and durations, often in controlled environments. It is checked for any signs of water ingress, and it should continue to function properly after the test.

Importance of IP68 Rating

IP68 ratings are crucial for a wide range of devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, fitness trackers, cameras, and industrial equipment. Here’s why:

Durability

Devices with IP68 ratings can withstand harsh environmental conditions, making them more durable and long-lasting.

Versatility

They can be used in various scenarios, from underwater photography to construction sites, without worrying about damage.

Reliability

IP68-rated devices are less likely to malfunction due to dust or water ingress, ensuring consistent performance.

Correct Care for your Device

Devices may be damaged if water or dust enters the device. In addition, falls, impacts, or physical damages will surely reduce or invalidate the IP68 rating your device had from the manufacturer. For new devices with a manufacturer IP68 rating, follow these tips to prevent damage to your device and to help maintain the water and dust resistant performance:

Do not immerse the device in fresh water deeper than 1.5 meter’s and do not keep it submerged in fresh water less than 1.5 meter’s deep for more than 30 minutes;

If the device is dropped or receives an impact, the water and dust-resistant features may be damaged;

Do not expose the device to water moving with force;

If the device is exposed to fresh water, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth;

The touch screen and other features may not work properly while the device is in water;

If the device is exposed to any liquid other than fresh water, gently rinse it with fresh water immediately and dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. Failure to gently rinse it in fresh water and dry it as instructed may cause it to suffer from operability or cosmetic issues.

Consideration of the IP68 Rating

In a world where our electronic devices accompany us everywhere, the IP68 dust and liquid resistance rating provides a significant layer of protection. It assures us that our gadgets can withstand the challenges of both everyday life and more extreme environments. When choosing your next device, whether it’s a smartphone for your adventures or industrial equipment for your business, consider the IP rating to ensure it meets your specific needs for dust and liquid resistance and use common sense when thinking about your devices’ IP rating post-fix.

In addition, please note that once you have dropped your device with significant g-force, have physical damages or your device has been fixed/opened these actions will invalidate the IP68 rating guarantee from manufacturer. Although our technicians are trained to replace seals and adhesives where applicable, we don’t guarantee against liquid damages or guarantee the original IP68 rating from the manufacturer.
